Rebel Wilson in Isn't It Romantic

February is the month of love. With Christmas fever finally tapering off, people begin longing for another occasion to celebrate with their loved ones. Red hearts start popping up in even the most cynical pharmacies and groceries stores, while restaurant reservation books flood with names of hopeless romantics wishing to spend a wonderful evening together. Whether you plan on celebrating the day with your significant other or you’re blissful in your singlehood, Rebel Wilson in “Isn’t It Romantic” is the number one movie to watch on Valentine’s Day in 2019.

Featuring the comedic genius, Rebel Wilson, and the ridiculously handsome Liam Hemsworth, along with stars, such as Adam DeVine, Betty Gilpin, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Isn’t It Romantic is making waves all over the Internet ever since the release of its trailer. With such a talented cast, the movie is sure to be jam-packed with entertainment. In fact, it has already made it to Refinery 29’s list of “Most Anticipated Films of 2019” and people are obsessing over the story-line.

The Plot…

Isn’t It Romantic is not your average romantic comedy with a hackneyed plot and tons of feels. It is quite the contrary. The movie pokes fun at the clichés employed in typical chick flicks. The writers very skillfully throw shade at scenarios hand-picked from famous rom-coms, creating a delectable mix of humor and satire that will have you rolling in your seats. Isn’t It Romantic is the kind of movie that immediately becomes your favorite and all your previous guilty rom-com pleasures will never be the same again.

The movie revolves around Natalie, played by Rebel Wilson, who is a New York-based architect struggling to get her work noticed. She has grown up disenchanted with romantic comedies and believes that all she sees in such films is simply fantasy with no room in the real world. One day, she gets mugged at a subway station and fights the mugger till she is able to flee. However, in her attempt to get away fast, Natalie bumps her head and falls unconscious.

…And The Twist

Rebel Wilson’s character, Natalie, wakes up to find herself in a parallel universe where everything, including herself, seems to have a beauty filter. She is surprised to realize that she now owns an enormous apartment in New York City with a huge walk-in closet containing the best clothes, shoes, and accessories. Her efforts to get help and understand the situation end in vain.

Natalie’s life changes completely in this parallel universe when she finds that she has not one, but two love interests, namely her client Blake, played by Liam Hemsworth, and her best friend Josh, played by Adam DeVine. However, things don’t seem so rosy when Natalie realizes that she is actually living in a trite and stereotyped rom-com, which is strictly PG-13. This not only thwarts her ability to experience sexual intimacy, but it also means that this PG-13 universe bleeps her out when she swears.

Frustrated by the situation, Natalie discovers that she must escape all the clichés of her rom-com world and find true love in order to live happily ever after in her actual reality.

Strong Female Lead

It is no rocket science that Hollywood needs more movies with strong female leads. Veterans and newcomers alike have been campaigning for more screen-time for women in major Hollywood movies. With female-oriented movements, such as #MeToo and feminism, forming the premise of today’s society, it comes as no surprise that audiences are welcoming Isn’t It Romantic with open arms since it features a strong female lead that does not conform with conventional beauty standards.

Rebel Wilson is one of the few plus-sized actors in Hollywood who have landed great and monumental roles in major Hollywood successes. Wilson is known for her jocular talent and flawless delivery of snappy one-liners. She is adored by her colleagues for her sarcastic comedy and her ability to improvise dialogues on the spot.

However, what makes her role in Isn’t It Romantic iconic for Rebel Wilson is the fact that her character highlights the unrealistic ideals set in mainstream Hollywood movies and is seen fighting these standards of unachievable perfection throughout the movie. Wilson’s character highlights society’s bias against plus-sized women and depicts their daily struggles to succeed at work and at romantic relationships.

Rebel Wilson to Reunite With Pitch Perfect Co-Star

One of the reasons that audiences around the world are so excited for Isn’t It Romantic is that the movie will bring together Rebel Wilson and her Pitch Perfect co-star Adam DeVine. The chemistry between the two actors was absolutely magical in the Pitch Perfect series as well as in their joint appearances in Workaholics and Super Fun Nights. Fans are anxiously waiting to see how Wilson and DeVine will appear on screen this time.

In an interview with HollywoodLife, Adam DeVine stated that Rebel Wilson asked him to do the part and he immediately agreed on seeing Rebel Wilson’s dedicated to the project and how funny the script was. He said he loves working with Wilson and considers her his “work wife”. He also reveals that the film contains a lively music and dance routine featuring him and Rebel Wilson. Given their strong friendship and great work chemistry, Isn’t It Romantic will undoubtedly be a crowd-pleaser.

Music, Dance, and Magic

I think it’s safe to say I’m bringing saxy back,” writes Liam Wilson to his 10.8 million followers on Instagram along with a photograph of him on the set of Isn’t It Romantic playing a saxophone looking divinely beautiful as always. Rebel Wilson, too, shares several memories from her shooting days on her social media and fans are going crazy. The photographs show the star-studded cast dancing in the middle of a street (as is expected of a spoof on rom-coms), complete with vibrant outfits, a band of backup dancers and perfectly choreographed dance moves.

The cast looks absolutely gorgeous in the photographs and it goes without saying that everyone is thrilled to see Rebel Wilson opposite Liam Hemsworth in this meta romantic comedy. Although an unusual duo, Rebel Wilson (forever the crusader for body positivity) and heartthrob Liam Hemsworth’s on-screen romance shows that nothing is impossible. Liam’s character, Blake is head-over-heels for Natalie, who is also smitten with him. Not only will we be seeing Liam Hemsworth in nothing but a towel waist-down but Isn’t It Romantic will also have a steamy kiss between Blake and Natalie (yay!).
